Four-Legged Friends (Mostly)

Just as I sat down tonight to write today’s post, I found out that my lovely mama cat, Sable, had been hit by a car today.  As I may have mentioned before, our cats are outdoor cats, and really almost wild.  Sable was really the only one that was like a pet—friendly and loving and always up for a petting.  I’m going to miss her.

At this point, I really don’t have much of a post left in me, and it’s hard to type through tears, anyway, so I’m just going to leave you with some of my favorite TV animal friends.

SO, so sorry! Mt favorite cat ever looked just like yours, a tabby, named Trigger. Our cats were mostly outdoors too due to allergies. I was devastated when we had to put him to sleep, but he'd lived a long life at least, 18 years. I hope you can get some of your wilder cats to come around for some petting; cats are so intuitive, they will know you are in need of comfort.

Thank you for your kindness, though as I posted the other day, it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity and Sable showed up on our doorstep a few days later. I was so thrilled! Though, interestingly, in the couple of days she was gone and I was so sad, all of our kittens did let me at least pet them briefly while they were at the food bowl. Usually they don't even do that, so maybe you're right about the intuition.

And I feel for you and the decision you had to make with Trigger. I've had to make that choice a few times with our pets, and it's never easy, even though you know they're counting on you to do what's best for them.

Thanks again.
This is one of my fears. My kitty likes to go outside and explore, but I always worry when these people speed down our street. He's an indoor/outdoor cat though, so I don't have to worry much. :( I'm sorry to hear about Sable. Hopefully one of your other cats come around.

As I posted the other day, I was surprised and thrilled to find that my son had mis-identified the poor departed kitty, and Sable returned home a couple of days later. However, though we have a small and safe-ish neighborhood, we do live right off a highway, and I am always terrified of the fate that could befall our cats.

Thank you for your kind words and your visit.
we're talking about getting a cat.... we'll see

I know that many, many people are not cat people, but I love my cats. Even when they're behaving in the stereotypical cat fashion of stand-offish and disdainful, I still like them. And I will say that the indoor cats I've had in my life have never been like that. Maybe not as constantly agreeable as a dog, but still very nice pets.
HUGS, I am so sorry. Our dog is my first child, so I understand your pain. I will pray for you and your sweet Sable in cat heaven.

Thanks for the thoughts, Karen. As I posted recently, though, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my son had buried a case of mistaken identity, and Sable showed up back at home after a couple of days. I gratefully considered it a miracle.
thats sad

Lassie and Flipper were such staples of my childhood, and to this day my favorite dogs are Shelties and Collies.
I am so sorry for your loss. My daughter's 2 year old cat got loose 4 weeks ago and still has not shown up. It is so hard not knowing if she is even still alive. Especially when my daughter has clung to her through her daddy's serious illness that started two years ago. Some people never realize the impact pets can have on our lives. (((hugs)))

Thank you for your kindness. But, I am so very glad to report that reports of Sable's passing were exaggerated. Turns out whoever my son buried was not her, as she showed up on our doorstep fit as a fiddle a couple of days later. I do hope your own kitty turns up safely. We had indoor/outdoor cats when I was a kid, and once one of them disappeared--we think a stowaway on a workman's truck. She finally turned up again, two or three months later. She was hungry and exhausted, but okay and very glad to be home. I'll pray that your daughter has a similar outcome.
Oh wow! That is so wonderful! So glad to hear of Sable's return!
