Snapshot Sunday #16

I think it’s too early in the holiday season to already be having the doldrums, but I think that it might be happening anyway.  I’m going to try to focus on the happy and good things, which is how it should be.

For today, though, let’s see the daily photo prompts from Chantelle.  You can find the entire list of her photo a day here.

18. Happened This Weekend

Prompt:  Happened this weekend.  Getting the kitchen island ready for the arrival of our new cooktop.  The cutting was messy, but the unit fit perfectly when it arrived.

19. Something Awesome

Prompt:  Something awesome.  I use my crockpot at least once a week, and I am so glad my sister told me about these awesome liners to make cleanup so much easier.  And now, I get SIX bags in every box instead of only three!

20. Work Play

Prompt:  Work/play.  My world pretty much revolves around my computer—keeping up with what’s happening in the world and with friends/family, paying bills, finding recipes, you name it.  And, of course, the work of my online class content, and the play of goofing around on Facebook.

21. What You Wore

Prompt:  What you wore.  My beat up fuzzy Isotoners, the only kind of slippers I’ll wear.  I love these things, but it’s just about time to replace them.

22. Grateful

Prompt:  Grateful.  Whenever I make a list of things to be grateful for, these two are always at the top of the list.  And, I’m grateful we could be together for Thanksgiving and have just a little bit of quiet family time.

23. Black

Prompt:  Black.  My trusty roaster oven, being put to work for the second time in as many days, cooking up a nice, juicy turkey.

24. A Sound You Heard

Prompt:  A sound you heard.  Well, this is a quiet moment, and I never thought to grab the camera when he was jumping around and gesticulating at the screen, but with Brian, football is a very loud experience.

And, that’s it for tonight.  Chantelle has just posted her December prompt list, so I’ll be checking that out soon.  One more month of playing along and seeing what there is to see.  Have a happy week, everyone.

Snapshot Sunday #15

Happy Sunday, everyone!  We didn’t make it to the movie today, so I guess Mr. Lincoln will have to wait until next weekend.  Instead, we spent much longer than I anticipated getting the kitchen ready for our new cooktop.  The existing cutout was just a couple of inches too small, so we (read: Brian) had to modify it a bit.  The actual tile and wood cutting didn’t take all that long, but, if you’ve never used a circular saw to cut through kitchen countertops in your home, trust me when I say it makes a really big mess.  I think I’ll be wiping that fine dust off of things forever.  But, the new cooktop is supposed to be here Tuesday, which means I’ll get to use it for Thanksgiving, so I’m excited!  Incidentally, that also means alternate cooking methods until then, so we grilled tonight and I’m planning crockpot pork ribs tomorrow night, so we should be covered.

But, enough of that, let’s see what this week’s photo challenge turned up.  Check out Chantelle over at Fat Mum Slim to see the prompts and play along.

11. Night

Prompt:  Night.  My house, barely lit by the porchlights.

12. Drink

Prompt: Drink.  Chocolate milk in a color-changing glass.

13. Where You Slept

Prompt:  Where you slept.  A quick rest while we were out running errands all afternoon.

14. Man Made

Prompt:  Man made.  I don’t really know what this is supposed to be; it’s something artsy they constructed over a new highway.  It probably has a name, but I don’t know it.  I do know it lights up at night and looks like some sort of glowing alien ship, but during the daylight hours, it’s not nearly as cool.

15. In Your Bag

Prompt:  In your bag.  My school bag.  It’s solid black on the outside, but I like that it’s so colorful on the inside.

16. The View From Your Window

Prompt:  The view from your window.  This isn’t all that exciting; it’s the truck of the water well repairman who had to come out to fix a leak.  Even less exciting, while everything seemed fine after he left Friday, when I got home from school yesterday, our water had become brownish.  We’ve got another call in to them, but it’ll be tomorrow before they call back.  I hope they can come out soon, though we’ve stocked up on some bottled water, just in case.

17. The Last Thing You Bought

Prompt:  The last thing you bought.  Well, you have probably guessed that I did not win the lottery last night since you’ve read this far without hearing anything about it.  On the other hand, neither did anyone else, so I can try again Wednesday!

And, just a few random shots  . . .  a pretty sky one evening at school, the latest batch of kitties (we need to find a home for them, if anyone’s looking for a cat in the next couple of months), and our cat Mel snuggling up in leaves.

Snapshot Sunday #14

Happy Sunday, everyone, and happy Veterans’ Day.  Brian is a Veterans’ Day baby, though they called it Armistice Day back then.  He says when he was born, people suggested his parents call him Armi.  Personally, I’m glad they opted against that, as I’m somewhat opposed to weirdo names.  Plus, I think that might’ve made it difficult for him to sign up with the Navy when that time came.  So I say happy birthday to him, and send a big shout of gratitude to the veterans everywhere.

In addition to Veterans’ Day, it’s also Snapshot Sunday.  Not as critical, of course, but it’s here just the same, so let’s get going.  As always, photo prompts provided by Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim.

4. TV

Prompt:  TV.  Well, we all know how much I love TV, so I wasn’t too sorry to see such a prompt.  In this case, my Netflix queue on my newfangled television set.

5. 5 O'Clock

Prompt:  5 O’Clock.  Just finishing up some grocery shopping at wally world.

6. A Favorite Thing

Prompt:  A favorite thing.  This could easily have gone into the “can’t live without” day, as I can’t imagine making do without my laptop.

7. Reflection

Prompt:  Reflection.  For the record, I was making a turn, so I was all but stopped when I quickly snapped this picture.

8. Something You Do Every Day

Prompt:  Something you do every day.  Well, duh.  Every day I check the photo prompt list on my computer (and/or on my phone) to see what I’m supposed to be shooting that day.

9. Small

Prompt:  Small.  Friday night before seeing Skyfall.  But at the concession stand, small sizes do not equal small prices.

10. Can't Live Without

Prompt:  Something you can’t live without.  My goofy, laughing times with Brian.

And, yesterday I posted a collage from my first time playing along with Ten on Ten, where the idea is to shoot 10 photos in 10 consecutive hours on the 10th of the month.   Well, I cheated a bit on the consecutive part, but it was ten photos throughout the course of the day.  I thought I’d post it here again today and at least identify the pictures.

November 10 on 10

  1. The morning sky at my house, just before 7:00am as I was heading out to school.
  2. About 7:15ish; it’s kind of hard for everyone in class to really wake up and get cracking on a Saturday morning, so I took some doughnuts to jump start everyone with sugar.
  3. About 8:00, as I arrived at campus, with some sea gulls flying around the school (though I have no idea why, or where they normally hang out).
  4. Heading home from school about 12:00 or so (I had to ditch the last half of class), sitting in football traffic for a game that wouldn’t start for another two hours.
  5. Back at my house before heading out to the football game, just after 1:00.
  6. Fighter jet flyover following the national anthem, about 2:30
  7. At the OU home games, during every kick off, the fans all stick their #1 fingers in the air with a long, drawn out O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-U!  I’m not sure of the time, during the game some time.
  8. Not sure of this time, either—just a quick pic of me and Brian.
  9. Post-game traffic, about 6:30.
  10. We went to Rudy’s BBQ after the game, and they keep some drinks in a large ice chest.  Rudy’s is about half a mile from where we were parked, but remember that line of traffic?  And a good portion of those people beat us to Rudy’s, so we had to wait behind them there, too.  I snapped this photo while we were waiting in that line; I’d guess about 7:30.

Even if I did cheat a little bit on the finer points of the project, it was still fun.  I think I’ll probably do it again.  You can find out more about it here.

And that’s the photo round up for this week; next Sunday we’ll find out what Chantelle had in store for us this week.  I hope you all have a good week ahead.

Snapshot Sunday #13

UPDATE:  Literally the last thing I did before I went to bed last night was hit publish on this post.  I didn’t wait for it because my wifi hasn’t been all that cooperative lately and it was really late already.  This morning, I woke up to an error message.  Oops.  So, today we’ve got a Mistakenly Monday edition of Snapshot Sunday!

Welcome to another edition of Snapshot Sunday, where I’m sharing my pictures for the photo a day challenge hosted by Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim.  We’ve started a new month, so this week’s entries are the final few days of October and the first couple of November.  I’m not sure how long Chantelle plans to run her game, but my plan is to finish up at the end of the year.  It’s been fun, but I think I might like to try something different for a while, though I’d like to find something else photography related.  We’ll see.

28. Looking Back

Prompt:  Looking Back.  I don’t have a ton of Billy’s baby pictures hanging around my house, but I still have this collage frame up because I love it!

29. Moon

Prompt:  Moon.  On a hazy night, the glow of the moon through the branches of one of my trees.

30. Clothes

Prompt:  Clothes.  I prefer warm weather to cold, but I prefer cold-weather clothes.  I like long sleeves because I so often get chilly when I’m inside, and, also, winter clothes are soft and fuzzy!

31. Whatever You Please

Prompt:  Whatever You Please.  My cats are often the subject of my snapshots.  This is Mel, enjoying the sunshine and a roll around in the dirt and leaves.

1. Something Beginning with C

Prompt:  Something Beginning with C.  This is the cooktop I hope to make mine in the next couple of weeks. (Before Thanksgiving is my hope.) Or maybe a different model, I haven’t quite decided yet, but something similar.  And then it will be a double C: Cheri’s Cooktop.

2. Color

Prompt:  Color.  I always want to go up to the northeast somewhere to see the fall leaves because we don’t really get anything too drastic here.  Some of the maple trees around here do turn a gorgeous shade of red, but for the most part it’s pretty much what you see here—a bit of gold and some rusty red that mostly end up looking like various shades of brown.

3. Breakfast

Prompt:  Breakfast.  Even though breakfast food is my favorite, I rarely actually have the meal because I’m not overly fond of eating when I first get up.  But on Saturdays, I have to have something on my way to school, or I’ll never get through the lectures.  This week, McDonald’s helped me out.

And now, just a few shots from Saturday’s ΦΘΚ induction ceremony . . .

And, finally, our silly group photo that we took to enter a Facebook contest and try to win some money for our chapter.  If you are so inclined, I’d appreciate any votes you feel like giving us (you can vote daily until the 15th), or if you’d be willing to share the link with others so that they may vote as well. You can vote here.  Thanks!

And that’s it for this week’s picture round up.  What kind of memories did you make this week?
