Taking a short break from the television chit-chat to visit with Mama M. over at My Little Life, linking up with Five Question Friday. But the small screen musings will return later tonight, closer to my more typical posting time. Now let’s get this party started, shall we?
1. What album/cd/download are you embarrassed to admit you have?
Well, in truth, I’ve pretty much moved past the stage of my life where I’m embarrassed by what others think of me, especially about something as silly as music. Besides, I’ve already confessed my love for Manilow and Air Supply; I’m not sure it could get much more embarrassing than that.
2. What's the one thing your spouse does better than you?
There’s all the obvious things, like fixing sinks and cars, though I’m not sure it’s totally accurate to say he does it better when I don’t do it at all. He is a better housekeeper than I am, though that’s almost as bad as the mechanical stuff, since I don’t really do housekeeping all that often, either; he’s much more diligent about it than I am. Oh, and he’s better at grilling, too.
3. When do you start buying Halloween Candy?
We don’t get get trick-or-treaters at our house, so buying candy isn’t a strict necessity. Still, I do usually buy at least a bag of Smarties in the week leading up to Halloween, and then maybe a bag or two of something yummy after the big day so I can get a good deal.
4. Family closets - Yay or nay?
We only have one kid, and he’s grown now, so the primary good to come from a family closet—at least as I understand it—doesn’t exist here. My inclination, though, is that even if I had a handful of kids, I’d probably leave their stuff separated into their own rooms/closets as much as possible.
5. Which home/cleaning chore do you hate the most? Why?
You read Q2, right? I really don’t like chores. I guess if I had to pick, I’d say putting away laundry, which is why my clothes pretty habitually hang out in a basket. As for why, I think it’s just the monotony of it all. I mean, it’s just fundamentally boring.
So that’s it for this week, and this is post #5 for the October Ultimate Blog Challenge, so I’m right on track with that. Tonight, I’ll be one up when I post my 31 Days entry, which, if you’re wondering, is about PSAs.
Thanks for checking in, and have a good weekend.
My day has not been very productive. There are things I need to get done, but don’t want to do them. And there are other things that I feel like I should want to do, but I really don’t want to do those either. That’s how it’s come to be almost 1:30 on a Friday afternoon and I’m still in my pajamas. And, of course, all that means there’s really nothing left to even think about doing except the newest round of Five Question Friday, so bring it on.
1. Thunder storms- love them or hate them?
I can love them, but there are conditions. I have to be inside (preferably at home), with no place I need to get to during the storm. It can’t have any unreasonable wind associated with it. And, it can be neither a sudden torrential downpour of many inches of rain in a very short amount of time, nor prolonged heavy rain, as both those circumstances generally lead to flooding in my house. As long as we all agree on the rules, I am perfectly fine with a thunderstorm.
2. Do your kids get back to school clothes
He did when he was actually a kid in school. Now that I think about it, I’m going back to school in a couple of weeks, do I get new clothes?
3. Do you golf? Do you watch it?
Brian really likes golf, though he never plays. Perhaps if we are able to retire at an age where we’re still relatively mobile, I’ll try to learn to play and we can go out together. At this point, I have played only once in my entire lifetime, and scored in the triple digits. If you aren’t familiar with golf, trust me when I say that’s bad. I think Brian might’ve been surprised that anyone could be so uncoordinated and incapable. As for watching, we do watch it often. Or, more accurately, Brian watches. I tend to nap. But I have to admit that there are sometimes some remarkable shots. And the courses? Beautiful. If the courses around here looked like the courses on TV, I’d be much more motivated to learn to do it right.
4. Showers or baths?
Showers. I would love to soak in a tub that was long enough and deep enough to actually stretch out in and be covered with water, but that tends not to be the case, so I’ll stick with showers. We actually have a tub in our bathroom that’s never been used in the entire 14 years we’ve lived in this house. It’s currently the home of the bags of clothes I’ve been pulling out of my closet for donation.
5. What's the strangest meal you ever ate?
Well, I don’t really eat strange food, so that’s a hard one. Back when I was a kid, we used to eat cow tongue. I don’t know why; maybe it was cheap. I seem to recall thinking it was okay, but I guarantee you I would never eat it now, so maybe that’s the strangest meal ever for me.
Somehow, I’m always a little surprised when Friday rolls around again. It’s true what they say about not having a strict schedule: days to tend to blur.
But, Friday it is, so that means it’s time for another visit with Mama M and her famous five questions. Between 5QF and blog games/awards, it seems that I’ve been answering a lot of random questions of late, so if you’re tired of hearing my views on such arbitrary minutiae, this might be a good time to wander elsewhere. On the other hand, you can’t really be all that surprised. I mean, the site is called “Idle Chatter”, so it’s right there in my header, for goodness sake. It’s like truth in advertising, right? (“Ages three and up. It’s on my box!” Gold star for those who recognize the mostly unrelated quote.)
Anyway, if you want to join in with 5QF, click the picture up there, or add yourself to the linky below. In the meantime, here we go . . .
1. What is the funniest thing you saw on Facebook/twitter this week?
It wasn’t funny in and of itself, but . . . Anyway, there’s a Facebook page for folks playing along in the daily photo challenge. The day’s theme was heart, and a member posted a pic of heart she’d constructed. Turns out it was made out of packing peanuts, but I thought it was Cap’n Crunch. I’d say it’s my love of kid cereals again, but I wasn’t the only one who thought it. See? Not really funny at all, now that I’ve said it out loud (virtually speaking). A definite “had to be there” moment.
2. What is your favorite Olympic event?
Don’t hate me, but I’m not an Olympic fan. There are some I dislike less than others, I suppose, but none are my favorite. But I’ll cheer for the good ol’ USofA whenever we’re on the field. Or court. Or whatever.
3. Do your kids do chores around the house? If so, what are they and how old are the children? Do they get paid for them?
My “kid” is 20, and he was better with chores 14 years ago! Maybe I should go back to construction paper charts with stickers.
4. If you get bad service/food do you complain or keep quiet?
I typically keep quiet, especially about the service. Food can be corrected if it’s been prepared wrong, but complaining about bad service is unlikely to accomplish much. And, I spent a lot of time in customer service with people only complaining about “bad” service because they wanted something for free; it’s rare that I get treated so badly that I think I deserve some sort of financial compensation. And, on that rare occasion, Brian doesn’t have any problem speaking up, so I’m covered!
5. If you could pick ONE frivolous item for your home, what would it be? (massive room sized closet? swimming pool? greenhouse? etc...)
Well, I’m a little spoiled. I’ve already got a swimming pool, and my closet is at least the size of a small room (though it’s hard to tell right now because of all the crap jammed in there!). But, even if I didn’t have those things, I think what I’d want is a theater room. You know, wall-sized TV, amazing sound system, big, plush recliner seats, popcorn and soda machines in the back corner, the whole deal. I’d like that an awful lot.
That’s it. If you’ve stayed with me this far, thanks! And if you don’t want to play along officially, just leave me your answers in the comments below. As we’ve established, I’m all about the random chatter.
Confession time: until I was on the floor underneath my fan, I had no idea how badly it needed cleaning. No one would ever mistake me for a housecleaner. Even worse, I probably would’ve left it dirty, but the dust (or, more likely, light bugs) in the globe showed up in the photos!
Who says these internet memes aren’t good for anything useful?
Are you the tidy sort? Or more . . . shall we say, relaxed, about your cleaning duties?
Okay, let’s start with the naked truth: I am not a very organized person. And I’m not too proud to admit that sometimes that causes me to allow things to slip through the cracks. Sometimes even important things. (I have put every bill possible on automatic payment so I don’t wake up some morning to disconnected electricity or a foreclosure notice.) But, with Brian back home with his family for an indeterminate length of time, some of the things that he normally deals with have temporarily become my responsibility. And since I often get forgetful even about my own normal responsibilities, I thought a to-do list might be a good idea. Not that I have an inordinate amount of things on my plate, but I’d say it’s still a 50-50 proposition that I get all of it done (heck, I almost forgot to water the trees today—on the very first day!), but at least it will help.
What about you? Are you a list-maker? A naturally organized mind? Or flying by the seat of your pants?
